Changing Seasons

Remember, I commanded you to be strong and brave. Don’t be afraid, because the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”  Joshua 1:9 (ERV)

Today is Wednesday, August 26, 2015.  I write this newsletter article and I find myself all alone in the house.  All six of our children hopped on bus #17 at 7:30 this morning and my wife had a dentist appointment.   I was quickly reminded of the Bible verse that tells us, “To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven (Ecclesiastes 3:1).”

I have discovered that life really does have seasons of change.  Today our family entered the season of having all our children in school.   Having been with you now since 2009, I have seen some of you go through seasons of change in the past and I may see you enter a new season in the future.

Perhaps, your new season will be downsizing from your house to an apartment, moving into assisted living, retirement, new job, increasing or decreasing your farming operations, more children or grandchildren, children moving away for more education or the armed forces, losing your spouse, gaining a son-in-law or daughter-in-law, or a variety of other things that may come your way.

The above Scripture passage gives us great encouragement looking into the life of Joshua.  Joshua was also about to enter into a new season of his life as well as all the lives of those whom he was now leading into the Promised Land.  Whether it is Joshua or yourself, take note of the first word, “Remember” which God speaks to Joshua. We are always directed back to what God has stated.  As you head on into your new season of life “remember” God’s eternal Holy Word.  The Lord God had commanded Joshua to be strong and brave as he headed into this new season of life.  Because this is God’s eternal word, it is rightly applied to His people heading into new seasons of life here in 2015.

How can Joshua, as well as ourselves, be strong, brave and not afraid as we head into these new seasons of life?  The reason we can head into these new seasons of life is because of the tremendous promise that God attaches to His directions.  That promise is that He (The Lord your God) will be with you wherever you go.  Remember His Word as you enter into your new season of life. Don’t be afraid and remember that, “…the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”  God be with you.

Changing Seasons,

Pastor Tom
